Román R. Romero

Román R. Romero earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from
New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) in 1997. While an undergraduate
student at NMHU, Mr. Romero was a four-year letterman on the football team,
a Member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Associated Students
of New Mexico and the Associated Students of New Mexico Highlands University, a three-time
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Team recipient and a Dean's
List Scholar.
Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Mr. Romero was an educator and
team leader for the Albuquerque Public Schools prior to attending law
school at the University of New Mexico School of Law. He earned his Juris
Doctorate there in 2003. While attending law school, Mr. Romero, who is
bilingual,
served as a consultant to Colombian judges and professors on behalf of
the United States Department of Justice, and completed an externship at the Supreme Court of the State of Guanajuato
in Guanajuato, Mexico. Mr. Romero also served as a law clerk at two of
New Mexico's most distinguished law firms and prosecuted criminal
defendants at the Second Judicial District Attorney's office.
Mr. Romero has represented clients in virtually all types of adjudicatory
proceedings in New Mexico, giving him a wealth of experience in a wide
variety of state and federal constitutional law, statutory law, common
law, established rules and procedural processes. These include the, the
United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, The New Mexico
Supreme Court, the New Mexico Court of Appeals, New Mexico District Courts,
Metropolitan Court, Magistrate Courts, Municipal Courts, Children's
Court, and several of New Mexico's administrative agencies. Mr. Romero
is licensed, and has practiced before the United States Court of Appeals
for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Western
District of Texas.
He has successfully defended criminal defendants charged with misdemeanors,
felonies, violations of Federal drug laws, and represented several clients
in civil matters including personal injury cases, contractual claims,
civil rights violations and appeals. Throughout the last 19 years, he has been
recognized by his peers for his excellent work as a trial lawyer and fearless representation of his clients.
Mr. Romero
has served as a Board Member for the American Bar Association, and the
New Mexico State Bar Association, and is currently a member of The ABA's Trial Lawyer and Criminal Justice
Divisions, The Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyer's
Association.
He has taught courses for Licensed New Mexico Bail Bonding Agents on behalf
of the State of New Mexico Department of Insurance, New Mexico Highlands
University, The New Mexico State Bar Association and The Law Review Continuing
